Online Poker Players Should Consider Filing Civil Forfeiture Claim

Written By Janice Doughtrey

Players that were affected by the Black Friday indictments still have time to file a civil forfeiture claim with the U.S District Court at the Southern District of New York. If players are seriously considering filing a civil forfeiture claim, they should seek legal help as soon as possible. The deadline to file a civil forfeiture claim is at the end of the business day today. It’s hard to believe it’s been 90 days since Black Friday, and 60 days since the government put out its first notice to seek forfeiture.

Sites such as Full Tilt Poker, Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet were affected by Black Friday, some more than others. Full Tilt Poker still owes U.S. players funds to the tune of $150 million. Some players from other sites were paid back.

Filing a civil forfeiture claim could be a way for online poker players to collect on funds owed, though there’s no guarantee that players will get their money. It’d worth trying if a player is owed a substantial amount. For players owed a smaller amount, they might be better off waiting it out. Full Tilt Poker looks like they’ll be getting some European investors soon, and they’ll be able to pay back U.S. players then.
