In 2013, Rauf was removed from the ICC’s elite panel of umpires following allegations that he had been involved in illegal betting activities. The Mumbai Police accused Rauf of being in contact with bookmakers and illegal sports betting during the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL). He was subsequently banned from umpiring in the IPL.
These cases are a stark reminder of the need for constant vigilance to ensure that sports officials maintain the highest ethical standards. While the vast majority of umpires and referees uphold the integrity of the game, a few can significantly impact the sport’s reputation.

However, despite these efforts, the risk of umpires and officials engaging in unethical behavior will always be. This is why it is essential for sports leagues and organizations to remain vigilant and proactive in ensuring the integrity of the game.
