Super Kansas Cash Jackpot Announces Winner

Written By Janice Doughtrey

It was the second time in four years when a player from Abilene won the Super Kansas Cash Jackpot! Hope Higgins, 65, matched all six numbers in a draw held last night to win $1,201,028. Higgins had split the same jackpot of $3.05 million in April 2004, and taken home a sum of $1.5 million.

Higgins said, after the win “I went through a phase wondering if I should keep playing. I felt that there was another win on the way so I kept on playing.”

The winner along with her husband are regular players of the Super Kansas Cash, where they spend $5-10 each per draw. When the jackpot amount goes over $1 million, they tend to spend a little more.

The winner had three $5 Quick Pick tickets in the draw when she matched the winning numbers of 04-14-15-20-30 Cashball 09. Regular play in every draw has been a contributing factor to their wins, but they believe the way they live also contribute to their win.

The husband stated “Me and the other Masonic Lodge brothers got together to assist a brother who has serious medical problems. We mowed his lawn and did other yard work that he and his wife couldn’t do.”

The husband and wife stated that they would love to support worthwhile causes and assist those in need. Among other plans the couple would like to donate to the Chapman Relief Fund to help tornado victims and travel around the state.

They have been married for 48 years and have four grown children and eight grandchildren. She will receive a sum of $840,719.60, after the Lottery holds back 25 percent in federal withholding tax and 5 percent in state withholding tax.
