Mike ‘Sir Watts’ Watson, who is just 24 years old, is a proud winner of over 1 million dollars for the World Poker Tour’s Bellagio Cup IV.

The 24 year old was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and now calls Toronto his home. He has spent more then a year in the Masters program at the University of Waterloo when he made a choice that would, in the beginning surprise his parents, but it eventually led to his win in the World Poker Tour’s Bellagio Cup.

He carefully checked his options, and then eventually had the strength to tell his parents who are both university professors, that he was dropping out of school. In doing this he was leaving behind the security of an elite education to pursue a career in the unpredictable world of poker.

The winner admits, “I did not like what I was studying. I had to write a thesis on a subject that I did not find interesting.”

He added, “It took a long time to reach the decision to drop from college. Explaining the decision to my parents was not easy, but they have been supportive of my decision since they have seen my success.”
