Online Bingo on the Rise Among UK Youth

Written By Janice Doughtrey

There are approximately 3.5 million bingo players in the UK – a staggering number considering the game, up until recently has been considered outdated. However, a recent study by Mintel, a computer, media and market research company found that more and more young players are flocking to online bingo halls.

While only 20% of bingo players in the UK play online, nearly 700,000 of the 3.5 million are between the ages of 18-24. In fact, 3 out of every 5 players are under the age of 45 while white collar professionals now make up 38% of bingo players in the UK (up from 11% last year).

Many believe the simplicity of the game and the sociable aspect of the online chat features are what are attracting the new, youthful player base. Another point to consider is the availability and growth of the internet and it’s convenience in terms of accessing online bingo halls. So while land-based bingo halls continue to lose players and revenue online bingo halls are consistently thriving.

Two online bingo operators are currently well recognized in the UK online – Gala Bingo and Mecca Bingo. Both companies have taken advantage of the online forum and the growing demographic and now possess strong brand recognition among online players. Both these sites are pushing forward in the market by offering great Welcome Bonuses to new players as well as a nice range of game rooms, clubs and a variety of other online casino games to play as well.
