Florida Moves Closer to Legalized Online Gambling

Written By Janice Doughtrey

Lawmakers in the state of Florida have made a decision regarding legalized online gambling.  The issue regarding complications with the Seminoles, a Native American tribe from Florida, has been resolved and both sides have come to an agreement.

The Seminoles will offer blackjack and Vegas-style slots and will receive their share of the revenue generated from taxes while the state of Florida will offer all other sectors of online gambling and benefit from the taxes produced by them.

If the two sides can stick by their agreement, there should not be a problem when it comes time for online gambling to be legalized and regulated.  If, however, either side asks for more than initially agreed upon, all progress will be halted until they can come to another agreement.  Therefore, the future of legalized online gambling in Florida depends on whether or not each of the two groups can uphold their end of the bargain.

The entire process of legalizing online gambling may still take several years as the government must work out any issues before passing anything.  That means that the majority of Florida citizens must be satisfied with the law.  In the event that many people oppose the bill, those lobbying on behalf of the online casino industry will have to find some way to convince them whether it is with factual evidence or a commitment to develop proper programs to combat addiction.
