An article in the Citizen Magazine stated that online gambling is out of control in the US.
The Citizen is a journal for the Focus on The Family Action lobby group and is published ten times a year. This group is a huge supporter of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act which was signed into law in 2006, and is constantly urging their readers to be supporters as well.
The Citizen’s mission statement reads, “Gambling has attained unprecedented levels of acceptance, glamorisation and popularity in the United States.”
“Once confined to the remote desert region of Nevada, gambling, in one form or another, is now legal in 48 of the 50 states. Utah and Hawaii remain the only exceptions. Citizens throughout the United States are beginning to see the trail of devastation gambling leaves in its wake,” the statement continued.
Chad Hills, who is an Analyst for Gambling Research and Policy at Focus on The Family Action, wants to hear what the public has to say about online gambling.
“We need citizens to submit comments to our government about Internet gambling before December 12, 2007,” he said.
“We have more than 800 casinos and 42 lotteries in the United States. The last place we need more gambling is in our homes,” he added.
Hills also said that he believed online gambling to be “out of control” and that the American and Canadian policymakers need to come up with “clear policies or effective oversight for tribal gambling operations.”
