Why Gambling Is Just Not Cool

Although many should learn the lesson, the casino industry continues to boom on the over optimism of man in himself. The probabilities are clear. Most gamblers do not hit it big. They lose it big. But despite that obvious fact, we see herds of people piling into gambling. Why? The answer is simply selfish greed. People want to succeed without putting the effort into actually working for their wealth. They want a get rich quick scheme that does not require pain. An ancient Jewish proverb should teach us differently. “Those who love pleasure will be poor.” Gambling is pleasant. You go into a beautiful casino. The fun, the thrill, the champagne glasses clinking, and the rush of activity. If something is fun, it is going to drain your finances. The gamblers who make it big are those who suffer. They disobey the law and rig the system. They steal from their partners to get more lotto tickets. Or, they keep gambling over, over, over, and over again until by chance they happen to make it. They than lost it again in throwing it in another jackpot. Joining the rush toward gambling is something that a wise person should never consider.

So why are so many people considering it? The Star reports that now many wealthy people in Asia are going for the gambling scene. You would think people would get the lesson. Perhaps, it is just the entertainment. “Let’s just toss something in and see what happens,” say a few. This, while orphans are going without food in Africa. The misplaced priorities of humanity should sicken us, but instead they enlighten us to the problems and injustices that continue to plague even the smartest individuals.

Is there are magic bullet to wealth? Yes, it is the opposite of the Jewish proverb. “Those who love suffering will be rich.” The path to wealth is not an easy one. Those who make it big are those who choose to sacrifice what they want in the moment to get what they want in the future. The gambler suffers from an extreme focus on the here and now. He neglects the pain of losing his home after the excitement of throwing money in the jackpot subsides. If you are someone who likes to gamble, that need for excitement is much better placed in a good outdoor hike with your friends. There is no magic bullet to wealth that is easy to fire. Like all target practice, it takes pain to get gain.
