British Columbia is doing it, and by the looks of it, so is Ontario. Online casinos and sportsbooks software is now allowed in those provinces, as well as others. This trend is not just happening across Canada, but also all around the world.
Now you are probably wondering why? The biggest motivating factor is that it pays. A lot. Governments are adopting this growing trend as a means to bring in more revenue from a new source. Ontario alone needs as much revenue as possible, with all the promises set out by the government, as well as the looming $20 billion deficit. Branching out and expanding the gambling sector is just one of the ways they are trying to offset the mounting debt they have building.
The cost of running a land based casino is substantial, as there is the operational costs, not to mention the cost of employing thousands. In comparison to building a casino, a web based one versus a land based one is comparatively cheaper. When a land based casino opens up, it costs millions to build, millions to set up and get operational with staff included, and then it takes so much time. Online gambling websites that use sportsbook software, or any gambling software cost so much less, and take very little time to set up. The hardest part of running an online gambling website is hiring the 50-60 staff to run it.
Will governments start using this as a means to bring in more revenue to offset costs? Only time will tell.

Literally one day after the ban on online gambling had been lifted in the United States, PartyGaming announced that they would be combining forces with Austrian gambling giant Bwin.
This joint venture has English bookmarkers green with envy, as the coupling of these two online gambling giants reeks of money. Bwin will be worth an estimated $3.7 billion then. Because the market was there before for PartyGaming, its like Bwin is litereally hopping onto a gravy train that is going to sky rocket their profits. Entering the U.S market means that PartyGaming will be back with a vengeance as they were the number one ranking online casino gaming provider.
There was a federal ban imposed in 2006 in the United States, forcing out many English bookmarkers, as well as other online gaming providers around the world. Now that the ban has been lifted, the move to join forces will be greatly beneficial to both PartyGaming and Bwin.
When the 2006 federal ban on online gambling took place, it hit online gambling companies around the world, and with PartyGaming ranked as the number one online gambing provider, they felt that blow the most as 70% of their customers were from within the United States. It was a substantial hit to take, as PartyGaming’s rank as the number one gaming provider went down to number four.
With the ban lifted, PartyGaming is looking to make a rebound on their losses, and Bwin will definitely help with that.

Brand slots will never not be popular in the online casino world, and Microgaming knows it. In the online gambling world, operators are always looking for ways to one-up each other by creating new and innovative games that will blow their competition out of the water. While live dealers and interactive online slots have experienced a huge upswing, 3D online casino games seem to be the big new trend in the online gambling industry.
888 has become the first online gambling operator to launch 3D casino games, where players can take part in games that claim to truly replicate the land-based gambling experience. The games will be available in Instant Play and downloadable versions, so all online casino players can take part in this brand new online gaming experience.
3D technology is becoming a huge trend in the general entertainment world. With the inception of 3D TVs and the upswing of 3D IMAX movies, it is only natural that the trend would spread to the online casino industry.
The world’s first 3D casino was Le Croupier, a brand launched by Lucien Barriere. While it was indeed innovative, it targeted mostly towards the French gaming market. 888 picks up where Le Croupier leaves off by attempting to attract a wide range of players from all over the world.

While many American online gambling websites are skeptical about the legalization of online gambling, Las Vegas casinos are hopeful that the activity will be legalized within the next year. Despite the widespread concern that online gambling may displace land-based casinos, Las Vegas views it as a lucrative business opportunity.
It was recently mentioned that Barney Frank’s new bill would not grant online casino licenses to operators who chose to remain in the market, despite the enacting of the UIGEA. These operators not only illegally operated in the United States but also gained a huge head start, ahead of operators who patiently awaited the legalization of online gambling.
This development has caused numerous land-based casino operators to change their point-of-view about online gambling. If the bill does punish operators who stayed in the American market, Las Vegas casinos will be able to launch their own online gambling brands to players in the United States. This would open up many doors for the land-based gambling environment, as they would no longer have to worry about being displaced by online casinos.
Although the new online gambling bill is likely to be passed this year, industry insiders expect that it will be a long and laborious process. The bill will have to undergo markups and hearings before it is passed, but Las Vegas operators continue to patiently await its enactment.

It is quite rare for online casino news to sneak into general interest newscasts, but the recent news about the Michael Jackson-branded online casino has gained widespread interest in across North America. It has recently been reported that a new online casino is using images of the King of Pop himself to sell its services, and his estate is furious over the issue.
While the identity owner of the casino is currently a secret, Michael Jackson’s estate lawyers continue to seek damages. They have gone after GoDaddy.com, claiming that the website was at fault for granting the domain, MichaelJacksonCasino.com, to the mystery operator. They hope that this action will flush out the identity of the owner, so that they can take against him personally.
There is no word yet on whether the estate lawyers will go after the software provider as well, but it would be a good idea, as it would have more detailed information on the casino’s operator.
While the estate is seeking $100 million in damages, it is not about the money. They feel that the launch of an unauthorized online casino in Michael Jackson’s name is just disrespectful, and they hope that the owner will be put to justice soon.

After a failed attempt at creating a new video poker format called Level Up, Micrograming has been schooled by Cryptologic. It’s not like it was an utter failure, but the format wasn’t as much of challenge to players who quickly picked it up. Now Cryptologic seems to have brought more to the table, releasing a video poker variant last week called Over Poker. The company describes its new video poker format as an exciting new way to play poker, as well as gives players more control over the cards and hands they want to play. Cryptologic also says that “Experienced poker players will love this game and beginners will find it very easy to learn.”
Over Poker isn’t too complicated to understand. The goal is to try and get as high of a poker hand as possible, as with any video poker game. Hand rankings mirror traditional poker hands, and the payouts are shown on the pay table in the game.
Another new feature that is kind of neat is that players who play Over Poker can choose a skin to use. Three skins are available, army, factory, and wooden.
Over Poker can be played in all Cryptologic online casinos right now, so try your hand at this new video poker format!
